Elves Assemble!

Maggie’s, the charity which provides free practical and emotional support for people living with cancer in Fife, is delighted to announce that its hosting its first ever VIRTUAL Elf Family Fun Run.

On Sunday 6th December they are asking you and your families to dress up as elves and walk, run, skip, hop or cartwheel around a 3km, 5km or 10km route of your choice - you decide!  It’s free to register all they ask is that you raise a minimum of £50 per elf or £150 per family of elves for Maggie’s Fife.

If that doesn’t get your elf ears twitching, then perhaps this part will. As Maggie’s Fife’s Festive Partner, Smith Anderson Group Limited have generously pledged to match all funds raised through this campaign!

Adam Kent, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Fife said: “Christmas is a really critical time for fundraising at the centre. Knowing that so many of our traditional activities wouldn’t be able to go ahead this year due to covid restrictions was a real worry, so we’re excited to be able to do something a bit different with our Elf Family Fun Run. As it’s a virtual format, it means that the community can still get in the festive spirit and raise money for Maggie’s Fife, whilst keeping themselves safe within social distancing guidelines. We’re especially delighted that Smith Anderson have generously agreed to back this campaign by pledging to match whatever is raised and we’re truly grateful for their ongoing support. This incredible gesture means that together we can make a real difference to all those who visit our centre this Christmas, while spreading some much-needed festive cheer”.

The event allows elves to choose their own distance and route and of course the emphasis is on family fun. So long as you’re dressed as elves you don’t have to run the route, you can walk it if you prefer – even taking your family dog with you.  We have created an Elf Family Fun Run Facebook Group to bring the elf community together. From there you can download your running number and also a scavenger hunt for the kids to do. The event is free to enter, simply register here.  Once you’re registered you will receive an email to help you get started with your JustGiving page. Even if you’re unable to get involved this time around you can still contribute by donating here.

During lockdown Maggie’s has been supporting people with cancer by phone, email and digitally. This support helped people from across the UK 60,000 times during lockdown.

The centres are open to see people by appointment and limited drop ins, for those who are visiting hospitals.  This support will run alongside our ongoing phone, email and digital support.

Maggie’s Fife relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to be able to offer this high quality, professional support.
