CEO Update – Putting Growth First

Thank you to all our members for your continued engagement across our events and networks. Your involvement is central to how we represent and champion business across Fife and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Fife Business Awards on the 5th June 2026 at the Old Course Hotel.

Scotland’s Economic Direction

Now that the dust has settled and the SNP has emerged as the largest party, but without an overall majority, progress will depend on negotiation and compromise. In this environment, it is essential that economic growth remains central, with policies that support competitiveness, investment and business confidence.

For business, the message I hear every day is clear: growth must be the priority!

The Cost of Doing Business

Businesses continue to face rising costs across energy, labour and regulation. Combined with the cumulative impact of taxation, this is placing real pressure on investment and growth.

While public finances must be balanced, increasing the cost of doing business risks undermining competitiveness, particularly when compared with other parts of the UK where conditions are quite often more favourable for investment.

Business Priorities

Our members are clear on what is needed:

  • A competitive and stable tax environment
  • A sustained focus on economic growth and productivity
  • Investment in skills and workforce
  • Improved infrastructure and connectivity
  • Support for innovation and scaling businesses

These must underpin future policy if Scotland is to remain competitive and we have been working with then Scottish Chambers of Commerce to repeat this message to our Policy Makers.

Supporting Growth

Recently we were pleased to attend an event at the RBS Accelerator Hub in Edinburgh, showcasing the support available to businesses through mentoring, networks and development opportunities. Initiatives such as this play an important role in helping businesses grow and scale.

Regional Investment

It is encouraging to see progress at Queensferry One in Rosyth, with the commencement of a new 50,000 sq ft development within the Forth Green Freeport. Led by the Scarborough Muir Group, this investment highlights the strength of opportunity within our region.

Welcoming New Partners

We are also delighted to welcome Carr's Flour Mill as a new Premier Partner and we are looking forward to working together to support our business community.

Looking Ahead

As the new government sets its direction, there is a clear opportunity to place growth, competitiveness and investment at the heart of economic policy and we will endeavour to engage where we can to represent your voice, champion your interests, and support the conditions needed for businesses to succeed.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
