Electric Kirkcaldy – Radio Show from a new zero emission bus on the Streets of Kirkcaldy

15th November 2024

Cleaner, greener, smoother and quieter claims put to the test

Stagecoach East Scotland have announced that six new electric minibuses will be coming to serve routes in and around Kirkcaldy from this November.

A preview event was held at Kirkcaldy Galleries on Friday 8th November, allowing local stakeholders to preview these exciting new vehicles and enjoy an early journey around the Lang Toun. Local radio station, K107FM, attended the event, where they were able to interview other attendees and record a show on board the first journey around the town.

Alex Airnes, K107FM said “Both Stagecoach East Scotland and K107FM are literally all around Kirkcaldy, so the news of this exciting new fleet was something we wanted to cover. With electric buses being smoother, cleaner, greener AND quieter – we wanted to see if we could record a radio show, whilst travelling around town”

“Electric Kirkcaldy’ featuring audio from the day will be broadcast at 18:00 on Friday 15th November on K107FM, and will feature local MSP’s, MP, Councillors, Stagecoach staff, stakeholder, as well as some local bus enthusiasts and the bus driver!

The full show, and interviews will also be available from K107FM’s Listen Again service: k107.co.uk/listen-again

The minibuses are part of a £2.1 million investment in Fife with the Scottish Government ScotZEB funding providing £680,000 in total towards the new vehicles. Built by Alexander Dennis Limited, who are based in Falkirk, the Enviro 100EV is an innovative design to fill a crucial niche for shorter wheelbase EV on routes that cannot be served with larger buses.

Douglas Robertson Managing Director from Stagecoach East Scotland said:

“These six new EV buses are an important addition to our Kirkcaldy town service, serving the local community with zero-emission transport. This £2.1million investment comes on top of the £18.4 million already invested in the transition to electric in East Scotland, making bus travel one of the greenest forms of transport available”
