Expanding Scottish Business Connections to China
The Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network will be leading a cross-sector trade delegation to China between 14th – 21st April 2018. The trade delegation will visit Bejing, Yantai & Jinan in the Shangdong province which has been identified by the Chamber Network for its untapped trade potential. The Shandong province is one of the wealthiest in China, with 100 million people in a province that, like Scotland, excels at manufacturing, energy both oil/ gas and renewable, financial services, agriculture, food and drink and tourism, it’s a natural match for Scotland.
As a nation, Scotland currently produces exports of about £79Bn. Of this, roughly £13Bn goes to the European Union, £17Bn to the Rest of the World and £49Bn is with the rest of the UK. As a country, there is so much more capacity to trade and export and we must look beyond the UK & Europe. With the uncertainty of Brexit, we need to better prepare ourselves and create trade links out with our conventional network. This is why the Chamber Network has been relentlessly working on strengthening our international connections to give Scottish businesses a platform to go do business and create substantial international B2B connections. With the opening of the Scottish Chambers Network International Trade office in Yantai last April, now is the optimal time for businesses to look at China as their new market.
