Fife Learn masterclass on successful business motivation

29th May 2017

The second Fife Learn programme from Fife Chamber of Commerce starts on June 15.

Guests who attend the masterclass at Forbo Flooring Systems in Kirkcaldy will hear from John Reid, Manager of the Michelin Tyre factory in Dundee. John will be sharing his experience in galvanising his workforce towards his vision for the factory, by persuading them to believe they could control their own destiny and create a positive future for themselves.

The masterclass is sponsored by the Smith Anderson Group, and the lessons John Reid will share will be applicable to all businesses and sectors.

Alan Mitchell, Chief Executive of Fife Chamber, said:

“The recent story of Michelin in Dundee is very inspirational and John Reid is at the heart of it. He drove significant transformation within the factory’s ethos and the workforce’s mentality. This in turn generated practical change.

“The factory turned from a site threatened with closure, to one which has secured substantial investment and a secure, long-term future. It is a story that demonstrates what is possible when a business has a leader who has a clear and compelling vision for change, and then passionately communicates this to the workforce.

“This insight is what attendees will benefit from and be able to take away to apply to their own businesses and situations. It is set to be a very engaging, optimistic and people-based masterclass and it will be followed by some practical workshops to be held at a later date and delivered by local Fife Chamber member companies.

“We’d like to thank Forbo Flooring for hosting this masterclass and Smith Anderson Group for their sponsorship.”

The inaugural Fife Learn programme is underway and is addressing innovation. Representatives from over 30 companies attended a masterclass from the Head of Strategy and Logistics at Glaxosmithkline, Dr Dave Tudor, to learn from his insights into manufacturing within Scotland, with a great deal of positive feedback received.

Gary Smith from Reel Service Ltd said of the masterclass: “I was really impressed with the speaker. I found him very passionate for Scotland.”

James Barbour from Sign Plus said: “An eexcellent speaker and a morning well spent out of the business.”

Alex Young from Clydesdale Bank said of Dr. Tudor: “Polished, personable and passionate.”

A series of educational workshops on different aspects of innovation are taking place throughout June, allowing more Fife companies to unlock their creativity.
