Former dance venue manager Pamela Walinck begins new role at landmark theatre

21st August 2024

The new assistant venue manager at Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall is relishing the task of drawing new audiences to one of the city’s key cultural assets.

Previously front-of-house manager at Dance Base in Edinburgh – Scotland’s national centre for dance – Pamela is keen to engage with as many local people as possible.

“The people of Dunfermline are very proud of the Carnegie Hall and it’s easy to see why,” says Pamela, who was box office supervisor at Edinburgh’s Lyceum Theatre before joining Dance Base. “The local community is the lifeblood of this theatre and I’d like to strengthen those ties.”

Pamela studied theatre at the University of Hull before completing a postgraduate qualification in arts management at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

“When I was younger, I was more into performing but I enjoy the organisational side of things too and this is a great place to be,” says Pamela, who leads a full-time team of five, boosted by casual staff at busy times.

“The Carnegie is a beautiful venue – a grand old lady – and I’m keen to make the most of all the great spaces it has to offer. Not just the main auditorium but its library. studio, lecture room and Tiffany’s bar.”

These more intimate spaces have hosted music nights, cinema screenings and smaller theatre productions – and all are ideal as meeting places.

Next up on the main stage is Four Seasons’ tribute act The New Jersey Boys on 30 August. They will be followed by a double bill of drama on 12-14 September – And Then There Were None by Dunfermline Dramatic Society and Dalgety Bay Players’ Wizard of Oz. Rounding off the month is a concert by the Royal Marines Band.

Pamela first caught the theatre bug as a nine-year-old, growing up in Bathgate. It is a love affair that continues to this day as a regular performer with Edinburgh’s celebrated Bohemians Lyric Opera Company.

A seasoned amateur theatre performer herself, Pamela knows what it takes to stage a great show: “This job’s all about attention to detail and looking after everyone – whether it’s the technical team, front-of-house staff, performers or our fantastic audiences.”
