Fourth Scot on the Touring Car grid at Knockhill as Lewis Gilbert joins the BTCC

The British Touring Car Championship return to Knockhill is only 3 weeks away and a surprise and welcomed announcement is that there will be a fourth Scot competing as 22 year old Lewis Gilbert, from Dalry in North Ayrshire, is joining the crack, multi-championship winning West Surrey Racing outfit. Lewis will fly the flag for Scotland alongside established racers Gordon Shedden, Aiden Moffat and Dexter Patterson as they take to the track at Knockhill on the 8th and 9th of August.

Lewis will be racing one of the trio of BMW 330i M Sport race cars along side regulars Charles Rainford and Daryl De Leon who currently lie 4th and 6th in the championship standings. Lewis is a European Champion kart racer and recently was runner-up in the Senior Max class in the RMC Grand Finals in 2022 and ‘24.

After testing F4 and Formula Regional cars, he made his car racing debut earlier this year in the GB3 single seater series at the likes of Spa in Belgium and other European circuits.

Lewis Gilbert said: “I’m thrilled to make my Touring Car debut with WSR and to join the BTCC – a series I’ve watched and loved for a long time. I’m only half a season into my car-racing career and already fortunate to be in a position to move into the BTCC. I definitely feel like I’m in at the deep end with the fastest circuit on the calendar – Thruxton – first next weekend and then my home track at Knockhill, which couldn’t be more different, on the 8th and 9th of August. But with the knowledge around me at WSR, I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
