Fresh insights into taking on young talent to grow your business
To kick off Fife Business Week, which runs from 7 to 11 November, local businesses are invited to a free business breakfast that will demonstrate how to develop young talent and celebrate what the young workforce is bringing to firms in Fife, 8am-10am on 7 November at Dean Park Hotel, Chapel Level, Kirkcaldy.
‘Celebrating Developing the Young Workforce in Fife’ is a workshop and networking session that will provide an opportunity for Fife’s businesses to learn how developing young talent can benefit them.
The event is hosted by Fife’s Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Board, which works with industry to get young people into employment. DYW links employers with schools and colleges to boost business success, and gives industry the opportunity to contribute to the preparation of a highly employable future workforce.
Businesses already engaged with DYW will discuss the benefits of Modern Apprenticeships. Event speakers will also demonstrate how young people can add value to the workplace and how taking part can secure wider recognition through Investors in Young People (IIYP) accreditation.
In Fife, a range of focused support, mentoring and vocational training is available to enable people to get work ready, including Modern Apprenticeships to equip people with the skills that they need for their job and to progress in work.
Cllr Lesley Laird, Fife Council’s Depute Leader and Executive Spokesperson Economy and Planning, said: “Fife Council is working with others to implement a range of programmes and initiatives to further tackle unemployment and support people into work by developing their skills.
“This free event is a great opportunity for businesses to come along, make new contacts and learn practices to develop their business.
“Fife Council and its partners are working to create a Fairer Fife, and a vital part of this is the creation of hundreds of new apprenticeships, and supporting our schools in helping to get young Fifers ready for the world of work. We’ve already had a great response from businesses across Fife - and would love to have even more partners to come on board. It’s fantastic for our young people, and it’s even better for the future of Fife’s businesses.”
Adam Dunkerley, Developing the Young Workforce and Opportunities Fife Partnership Manager, added: “This event is set to offer fresh insights into how we are working with businesses. We are working to equip Fife’s young people with the necessary skills for work and enabling them to develop the relevant skills that businesses need to help them recruit and grow.”
