It’s Full Steam Ahead for Fife Based Producer The Farmer’s Son as they Partner with Scotland's Most Famous Sleeper Train
An exciting new partnership has been launched between local multi award-winning Fife producer The Farmer’s Son and iconic railway experience the Caledonian Sleeper.
The Farmer’s Son, who supply their handmade Scottish Black Pudding, Haggis, White Pudding and Lorne sausage to high-end retailers and chefs across the country, are on the tracks to success through a new partnership with Caledonian Sleeper to bring guests an authentic taste of Scotland.
The Caledonian Sleeper, which has two main routes, The Highlander and The Lowlander, connects travellers from London to various places in Scotland, including Aberdeen, Inverness, Fort William, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The multi-award-winning producer from Auchtertool in Fife and the Caledonian Sleeper initially connected through their shared commitment to supporting local, Scottish businesses. Using a 100-year-old family recipe, The Farmer’s Son products are handmade in small batches using ethically sourced, local ingredients and sustainable farming practices. They use grass-fed, Scotch-assured beef, Specially Selected Scottish Pork as well as flour, oats and onions from local sources here in Scotland. Their products are also made with all natural ingredients, without artificial flavourings or preservatives.
The Farmer’s Son founder Peter Mitchell said, “We are so excited to launch this partnership with the Caledonian Sleeper, who showcase only the best of Scottish food and drink across their services. This is a testament to our hard work and commitment over the years to produce delicious food with real provenance.”

Founder of The Farmer's Son, Pete Mitchell, comes from a long line of farmers and producers. Founded in 2017, he can trace his family's farming heritage back over 11 generations, to the early 1700s. With 300 years of farming heritage in his blood, Pete wanted to create a food business that honoured those roots and the family legacy of producing high-quality food, while also embracing local supply chains and ethical farming practices.
Caledonian Sleeper’s Guest Experience and Catering Operations Manager David Durance explains: "At Caledonian Sleeper, we’re proud to champion Scottish produce and support local businesses, which is why we serve The Farmer’s Son's handcrafted Lorne sausage, Haggis and Black pudding in our Scottish breakfast. With 11 generations of farming heritage, they provide the finest locally sourced ingredients, rooted in tradition and sustainability. Their focus on provenance, quality, and traditional methods aligns with our commitment to offering guests a true taste of Scotland, with a low carbon footprint and a proud celebration of history and heritage."
Guests of the sleeper can enjoy The Farmer’s Son’s Black Pudding, Scottish Haggis and Lorne sausage, now available on the Caledonian Sleeper breakfast menu.
