Kingdom Housing Association Digs In For Jubilee Celebrations

8th June 2022

Kingdom Housing Association has planted oak trees in Glenrothes and Perth as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

With a focus on planting sustainably, the Queen’s Green Canopy encourages planting of trees across the UK to create a legacy which will benefit future generations.

Planting at their head office in Glenrothes and at the entrance to the Fairfield estate in Perth, Kingdom Housing Association has joined families, schools and community groups from across the country who have already planted over a million trees in more than 6,500 locations.

British oak trees support an incredible variety of wildlife, an estimated 2,300 species and the UK’s green spaces remove up to 1.3 billion kilograms of air pollutants each year.

Bill Banks, Kingdom Group Chief Executive said, “At Kingdom we’re proud to take part in the Queen’s Green Canopy project. We chose oak trees for their royal connection but also because of the incredible variety of wildlife they support as they grow. The trees are accompanied by commemorative plaques set in stone plinths and will be a reminder for future generations of how the nation has come together to tackle climate change. A mature tree can absorb up to 150 kilograms of CO2 a year and while our contribution may be modest, when added to the more than one millions trees already planted, the benefits really do add up.”

Bill added, “Kingdom has developed a Net Zero Strategy that recognises climate change and sustainability and being involved with the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative allows us to raise awareness of the climate emergency with our customers and staff as we drive forward behavioural change.”

The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative will run through to the end of the Jubilee year and you can find out more at www.queensgreencanopy.org
