Legal Firm set to reach Fundraising Target with Annual Will-Writing Drive

8th September 2016

A legal firm which takes part in Will Aid, a will-writing campaign for charity each year is set to smash its fundraising target of £80,000.

Rollos Law LLP in Fife has taken part in Will Aid for the last 8 years and has made £72,904 to date. The scheme involves solicitors writing basic wills for their local community and instead of charging them a fee, ask for a donation to charity.

Bob Inch, Partner with Rollos Law LLP, said: “We are very proud of our team for devoting their time and expertise for such a worthwhile cause. Will Aid is a fantastic initiative which actively encourages people to make a will as well as helping nine extremely worthwhile charities. In 2015 Rollos achieved the position of top Will Aid fundraiser in Scotland and third in the UK. This November we are hoping to write more wills than ever and are hoping to exceed a fundraising total of £80,000.”

Will Aid has raised more than £17 million for charity since it launched more than 25 years ago.

Campaign director Peter de Vena Franks said: “One in three people die in the UK without making a will, potentially leaving their family and friends nothing but confusion and costly legal battles.

“Will Aid is a wonderful opportunity to not just make a will, but do it with the help of a professional with the added bonus of helping nine charities in the UK at the same time.

“We are hoping that 2016 is going to be a great year for the Will Aid charities, but need more solicitors firm to get on board to help us achieve this. It offers solicitors an excellent opportunity to give something back to the local community as well as achieving some publicity of their own. We are urging solicitors to sign up now to make the most of the opportunity.”

Law firms across the county are being asked to pledge a portion of their time to write basic wills, with clients donating their fee. Any additional work to the will can be charged separately and is paid to the law firm.

The scheme takes place across the country from 01-30 November 2016 and supports nine of the UK’s best-loved charities - ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland).

The recommended donation for a basic Will Aid will is £95 for a single will and £150 for a pair of mirror wills.
