Scottish Government’s recovery plan for manufacturing
The Scottish Government, working in partnership with the country’s enterprise and skills agencies, as well as industry partners, trade unions and academics, has developed a recovery plan to support the manufacturing sector.
It will focus on four priority areas:
- developing a manufacturing start-up accelerator to get more investment into new or early stage companies
- creating new supply chain opportunities
- funding and support to assist a shift towards digital solutions and low carbon practices
- developing a skills programme to help workers reskill or transfer their skills to other parts of the sector.
The draft recovery plan is now out for consultation until 15th January.
Alan Mitchell, Chief Executive of Fife Chamber of Commerce, said: “The timing of the report’s launch is somewhat unfortunate given it comes so soon after it was confirmed that BiFab is going into administration following the withdrawal of financial guarantees by the Scottish Government. But the sad demise of Bi-Fab emphasises how critically important it is for Scotland’s manufacturers to get the right support at the right time if they are going to compete globally and provide high quality jobs and apprenticeships.”
