Short Term Lets Consultation
On 19th January 2022, the Scottish Government passed the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Short-term Lets) Order 2022. The council are currently in the process of preparing the licensing scheme. This is due to be launched no later than 1st October 2022.
Please note: From 1st October 2022, new hosts must not operate without a licence. All existing hosts/operators have until 1st April 2023 to apply for a provisional licence with short-term lets and are required to be fully licensed by the 1st July 2024.
There are four types of licence for short-term let accommodation:
- Secondary letting - The letting of property where you do not normally live, for example a second home that is let to guests
- Home letting - Using all or part of your own home for short-term lets, whilst you are absent. An example of this could be whilst you are on holiday
- Home sharing - Using all or part of your own home for short-term lets, whilst you are there
- Home letting and home sharing - Operating short-term lets from your own home while you are living there and for periods when you are absent
Please read the Scottish Government's guidance for hosts and operators. Updates of progress in developing the Fife scheme will be posted on this webpage, but if you have any specific queries then please contact [email protected]
Consultation survey - Your Views Matter
The Council wishes to collate the views of people and organisations to help shape the Short-term Let Licensing Scheme. Our online consultation survey is now available at the link below. The purpose of the survey is to consider which discretionary elements of the legislation should be included to reflect the Fife context.
The discretionary elements include issues such as:
- Anti-social behaviour
- Privacy and security
- Overcrowding
- Noise and nuisance
- Littering
- Repairs and maintenance
- Damage
- Unlawful activity
The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete and individual responses will be treated confidentially.
Please click the link below and tell us what you think. The consultation will close on Sunday 12th June.
