Student artwork takes on starring role in new exhibition

Fife College Supported Programmes students are getting ready to present their work to the public at a local gallery this month.

The students, who undertake creative work as part of their courses and who all have additional support needs, have produced work in a wide range of media including sculpture, printmaking, drawing and painting, with themes ranging from daydreams to the animal world.

Their work is now set to be displayed at the ‘Starry Nights’ exhibition in FifeSpace at Rothes Halls in Glenrothes.

Operated by ONFife, the FifeSpace gallery is a large and accessible space on the first floor of the Kingdom Shopping centre which has previously held exhibitions by a wide variety of artists ranging from college graduates to nationally recognised names.

Scott Green, a student on the Skills for Life course at the College’s Glenrothes Campus, is looking forward to seeing his work on display.

Scott, from Glenrothes, said:

“We are all so excited to be taking part in this exhibition in a professional gallery. We love art as it is fun and relaxing, and we are always learning new things.”

Speaking about the students’ work, lecturer Gayle Nelson said:

“Expressing themselves creatively and learning new skills is so important to our students. Through art they make choices, discover things they are good at, and gain a sense of achievement in what they have made.

“Our students are so excited to be showing their work to the public, their friends and families and we are very grateful to ONFife for this opportunity.”

‘Starry Nights’, opens with a Private View tonight (Friday 6 May), and runs until Thursday 26 May. It is open to the public Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
