Good news on Covid restrictions but tough economic battle ahead

Businesses welcome major easing of Covid restrictions as they prepare for tough recovery battle

The Scottish Government has confirmed that most legislative measures to curb Covid will be removed from 9th August.  As expected, face coverings will continue to be mandatory in public places.     This follows the previous decision that double vaccinated visitors from EU Amber list countries and the US will no longer have to quarantine to give a massive double boost for businesses desperate to rebuild after the devastation of lockdown and international travel bans.

Free Chromebooks on offer as Fife College partners with Shell on new digital skills course

CR Smith and Fife College create fast track programme for people seeking a trade

CR Smith and Fife College have joined forces to create a brand new, fast-track training scheme for would-be joiners to help address the growing demand for trade skills.

The programme is open to anyone aged 19 and above, who will be supported through a 10-month course in Carpentry and Joinery. Starting in September, three days a week of college-based work will be complemented by work experience at CR Smith, Scotland’s leading home improvements company.

Self-isolation exemptions announced won’t stop growing staff crisis

The Scottish Government has confirmed that workers will not have to self-isolate when they are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for Covid if they are employed in a company that is defined as part of the UK Critical National Infrastructure.     Employers will have to apply for the temporary extension and submit evidence demonstrating why it is necessary.    They can only apply for an exemption for staff who have voluntarily agreed to waive self-isolation and the employees themselves must meet cert
