K107FM to launch ‘Ten For Ten Challenge’ to end 10th year of broadcasting
Station announcing ‘Text to donate’ fundraising campaign
K107FM, the award winning community radio station covering Kirkcaldy and the surrounding area has announced a new fundraising endeavour, with the launch of the ‘Ten For Ten Challenge’
We are in the final 10 weeks of 2024, the year in which K107FM celebrated 10 years of broadcasting, a 5 year licence renewal from OFCOM, as well as further recognition with nominations in the Fife Business Awards and forthcoming Community Radio Awards.
As a not-for-profit radio station, and registered charity, fundraising to sustain the service remains a key part of the stations future, and the ‘Ten For Ten Challenge’ will see volunteers embarking in a series of activities from now until the end of the year. These will see K107FM members engaging with local businesses and the community, and for the first time the station utilising a ‘Text to donate’ system.
Each challenge, or the station can be supported with a £10 donation by texting “Radio” to 70580
On Thursday 24th October, station member Kenny Armour will be setting off on the first challenge as he attempts to walk the full 116 miles of the Fife Coastal Path.
Kenny, who is also the area lead for Andy’s Man Club (AMC) in Fife will be looking to highlight what AMC is doing across Fife, and th need for more venues for Andy’s Man Club across Scotland - he’ll be doing this whilst also fundraising for K107FM as the station’s first #TenForTen challenger
Kenny Armour said:
“I am embarking on this challenge which originally was purely to test myself and how far I had come in my recovery journey, Andysmanclub has played a huge part in my recovery so let's shout about them. But I also know how much work goes on behind the scenes at K107fm so it was a no brainer to do this walk to raise money for the station as well. It's going to be a challenge both mentally and physically but with the support of donations coming in it make it all worthwhile.”
K107FM will document Kenny’s progress from Thursday 24th October, with further challenges from other within the station over the coming weeks.
A station spokeperson said:
“Licence costs just to broadcast cost us around £4000 a year, and that is before any other core costs. Given the signifance of 10 years of broadcasting, we’re continuing to look at new ways to sustain this service and allow us to do more within our community.
The Ten For Ten Challenge encourages our team to do something different, and each £10 donation would really help the station. Kenny is launching the campaign with a huge personal challenge, and it’s great he can do so alongside his role with Andy’s Man Club and highlight what they do across our area and beyond.
Of course, we also remain as a cost effective marketing solution for local businesses to work with us, and there are even more ways to get involved over the festive period.”
To donate to K107FM and the Ten For Ten Challenge Text RADIO to 70580 to donate £10.
Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message - there will also be the option to then add Gift Aid and increase the value of your donation by 25%
The station is keen to hear from other local stakeholders who may wish to ‘challenge’ the stations volunteers, or work with the station going forward and would encourage businesses and organisations to contact: [email protected]
