Using AI Responsibly: Quick Tips to Build Trust with AI!

24th April 2025

Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, and almost every business, freelancer and university student is using it. And while this powerful tool can help streamline tasks and provide insightful data, how do can you make sure that you are using it ethically?

For this week’s Inside Track, I’m going to take a quick dive into the ethical use of AI – why it matters, common AI concerns, how to apply it responsibly. I'll also shed insight on how my company, Inspire Digital, ensures our use of AI is both effective and ethical.

With the rapid development in digital marketing, adapting is key. But no matter how advanced our tools become, using them in a humane, ethical way will always matter most.

Let’s get into it!

AI has taken the digital marketing industry by storm, performing tasks we never thought possible. From automating marketing campaigns and analysing huge amounts of data, to powering chatbots and generating content in minutes, it’s no wonder that AI has become the new star of online marketing.

But the reality is, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Since businesses are starting to feed larger volumes of data into these tools, it’s becoming ever more important to use AI in an ethical way. Not only do we need to consider the issue of sharing sensitive data here, but also issues around data privacy, customer data and company assets.

Additionally, being transparent with how you use AI helps build trust with your audience, strengthen your credibility, and foster a positive brand reputation over time.

Think of it not just as a compliance, but a way to create meaningful, respectful experiences for the people behind the data.

SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE AGE OF AI

With such an impressive tool at our fingertips, it’s completely understandable to have concerns. Moreover, these concerns can come from both the business and customer side as you may be sharing a mix of company data combined with producing AI content that is going out to your end-client.

Some of the common concerns around using AI that you should be aware of include:

Transparency

When you don’t know how something works or how it’s being used, it’s easy to become suspicious. And that lack of understanding often leads to a lack of trust. The same goes for AI. Not knowing the process can be a major concern for your customers and audience.

Data privacy

Since AI heavily relies on data, it can be concerning when sensitive information is used or collected without clear permission. Even more concerning is the possibility of data breaches, where private information might be exposed or leaked.

Bias

AI might seem objective, but at its core, it’s developed and trained by humans. As a result, it can reflect human biases, whether intentional or not. If the data used to train an AI system consists of existing societal prejudices, the output it generates can be biased too. This type of issue can cause harm, especially to misrepresented and stereotyped groups.

How to ethically use AI for your business

Now that we’ve covered the common concerns, let’s talk about how we can address them through best practices. Ethical AI use doesn’t mean avoiding the tool. It means using it responsibly, with intention and integrity.

Here’s how your business can start:

Prioritise data privacy

Respect your users’ data by only collecting what’s necessary and with their consent. Implement strong data protection measures, regularly review your data handling practices, and be upfront about how customer information is being used.

Establish clear AI use policies

Create internal guidelines that define how AI is used across your business. Make sure your team understands where AI fits into your workflows, what it should and shouldn't be used for. These policies help ensure that your use of AI is consistent, transparent, and aligned with your brand values.

Reiterate human support alongside automation

AI can make the process easier, but it shouldn’t replace the human touch. Let your customers know that while automation might power certain services, real people are still available to support them.

THE RISE OF AI IN DIGITAL MARKETING

We use the following as a guideline for our internal AI use at Inspire:

✔ We use AI to augment human capabilities, not replace them. AI only aids us in doing our jobs more effectively and efficiently.

✔ We are transparent about the use of AI. We inform our clients and employees of when and how we utilise AI at work and ensure this is agreed upon from the outset of our relationship.

✔ Our organisation is dedicated to using this technology with Passion, Integrity, and Ingenuity, the core Inspire values. We will not use AI in a dishonest or unethical manner.

✔ We share new knowledge within the team. That is why we encourage our team to share the AI tools they successfully use to spread knowledge and expertise within our company.

✔ We closely monitor the performance of AI systems, platforms, and tools. It is crucial for us to monitor their performance closely to ensure that they are working as intended and that we are up to date with the latest trends and tools.
